How do I know what pushrod length I need?

We can take an educated guess on pushrod length based on years of Pontiac engine builder knowledge but we recommend getting a length checking tool and checking spring in order to get an accurate length. There are several factors that affect the length and these are things we don’t know. Depending on deck height, if heads have been milled, lifter type, rocker type, (both may have different cup depths), spring instal height and valve length, and plain old valvetrain geometry preferences, all affect the length of the pushrod.

We stock all pushrods in .050 increments, restricted and non-restricted. Hyd roller lengths will usually be in the range of 8.600-8.950" and hyd flat tapped are usually in the range of 9.100-9.400".

We suggest following our pushrod length measuring guide or any reputable tutorials using a light checking spring and the adjustable pushrod length checker. Once you get the proper geometry, you can measure the checker and then order the corresponding length pushrod you need.
