Katlyn and her Grandfather's Pontiac Tempest

From Katlyn
The story I know of this car so far is it was bought brand new of April of 64. It has the original books where the original owner kept notes on the car. My grandfather said by the time he found it in 2017, it was sitting for so many years, it was pretty rusty. There was a giant hole in the rear fender which my grandfather patched with a refrigerator from his shop that stopped working. It was the fridge that’s been in his shop since I was a child. Most of the car was original. My 10 year old son is in love with the car. When I lost my 2018 Toyota Avalon, my grandfather brought up the tempest to be my daily driver from October 2023 until July 2024. My grandfather took it to southern Illinois in November 2024 and began the restoration process. He painted it with rattle paint from Walmart. Resealed the engine and fought with multiple leaks that kept appearing in the engine. Removed the air shocks that a previous owner had in the car. We removed the seats and found an extra set of keys for the tempest. My grandfather took the seats to be repaired by a man in Mount Vernon, IL. Tomorrow, 9/26/24, my grandfather is driving the 4.5 hours to northern Illinois where I live to bring the tempest home.

I forgot to add in about myself. I’m a child welfare assistant. Working with children in foster care. I’m 29 years old with a 10 year old child, 5 cats and a rabbit. I live in IL. I spent a lot of my childhood at my grandfathers town and shop in Cisne, IL and at the dragstrips in Byron, IL and Benton, IL. I enjoy reading, spending time with my son and animals and going to car shows when I have available time to go.
